Welcome!

HPN - Hollywood Monthly Prayer Points

                                                             October 2012 Newsletter

Dear HPN Prayer Partners,
The weather is finally cooling down in LA and we’re grateful. It’s Halloween month, a wonderful time of year to pray for the people, projects and issues in the entertainment industry. May we lift up God’s light and life during the second most profitable holiday for our nation and our industry. Let’s also pray for safety for our children on October 31st! We are so thankful that you’re praying with us and for us this month.

SUMMARY:
• Keep praying for studio and network executives to get hungry for the Lord
• Thank God that more influential people in Hollywood are becoming Christians
• Halloween 3D has been pulled from being released for Halloween
• Thank you for coming to pray for the Industry
• Thanks for praying for the people in our industry who are in need of work
• Keep praying for Russell who is starting treatments for bladder cancer
• Pray for the hearts of the industry pros during this annual Awards season
• Pray for Christian celebrities as they live and work in the public eye
• Pray for the decision-makers at American and Foreign Film Festivals
• Pray for Ari Emanuel, Co-CEO at William Morris Endeavor
• Pray for Celine and her family members, who don’t know the Lord
• Be sure to join Ralph’s & Krogers’ Community Project for HPN
ANSWERED PRAYERS:
• We have an answered prayer from last month’s request to pray for studio and network executives to get hungry for the Lord. Just this month a top Studio Executive, who is a Christian member of our community, was highlighted in I AM Entertainment Magazine. DeVon Franklin is a respected creative Executive at Columbia Pictures. Let’s keep praying for his influence, his witness, his creativity, and his faithful walk with the Lord. Click HERE
• Thank the Lord that more and more people in influential positions in Hollywood are becoming Christians. Pray for more decision-makers to experience God’s hand on them. Let’s pray for Record Executive, Bob Grace, who is going public with his conversion from decades ago while in the peak of his music career: Grace has worked with some of the biggest names in music—from David Bowie to The Spice Girls. But he says meeting God was the greatest experience of all. Read his story HERE.
• As an answer to prayer for many, the upcoming horror film, Halloween 3D has been pulled from being released for Halloween because it wasn’t ready on time. It was the 8th sequel in a successful franchise and will held for a later release. Paranormal 4, however, will be released by Paramount Studios this month. May we praise God that He is bigger and stronger than any horror films and ask Him to protect the young people who are often exposed to darkness and horror for the first time, through these films. God is greater than any film!
UPDATES:
• Thank you for those who joined us last Wednesday evening to pray for the industry. It was a wonderful night of industry professionals, USC students & Artists in Action, coming together here in LA to pray for the people we work with. We will continue to believe for God's miracles to happen in the Entertainment Industry!
• Thank you so much for your continued prayers for the people in our industry who are in need of work. Most of the new TV shows that have been picked up are shooting outside of LA and many, outside the US. So, we need to continue praying for the cast, staff and crews in LA who can’t get work – especially as we approach the holidays. May the Lord supply their daily bread and give them hope and the strength to depend solely on Him!
• Keep praying for Russell who is starting treatments for bladder cancer. Russell and his wife Marion are confident that healing is ahead, but they ask that we continue to be a part of his “Prayer Therapy!”
REQUESTS:
• Pray for the hearts of the industry pros who are anticipating the 2012 -2013 annual Awards season. We just finished the Emmy’s in Sept., on Oct. 22 is the 16th Annual Hollywood Film Awards, and then many other awards ceremonies follow, leading up to the Academy Awards on Feb. 24th, 2013. These awards shows become too important for the stars whose careers hang on what acknowledgments and accolades they receive. As we pray, let’s focus on Richard Gere, who, at 63 and 40 years into his career, may receive his first Oscar nomination this year. May Gere and other actors, directors, writers and producers with global influence, all find their identity in Jesus and not in man’s recognitions. For more info on The Hollywood Film Awards, click HERE.
• Pray for Christian entertainment celebrities in order to lift up their arms as they live and work in the public eye. These people of faith need our prayers because man was not meant to get the glory and they and their families have unique and difficult challenges, especially as they try to stay solid in their faith. Many of them are scorned by the church for working in Hollywood and scorned by some people in Hollywood for being Christians. Pray for their influence, their protection, their families and their faith. As you pray, read THIS recent article about how celebrities like Justin Bieber may be making Christianity more “cool."
• In our changing industry, Film Festivals are a growing phenomena in America and internationally, because more and more filmmakers can gain recognition, get distribution or even get more financing for their features, short films and documentaries, through screening their films at Festivals, especially when they win Festival awards. There are also many Christian film festivals, (one of the newer ones being: http://www.sdchristianfilmfestival.com/newSite/index.php. Please pray that filmmakers with quality films can gain recognition at Festivals and yet not find their identity in the awards they are seeking. Also pray for the judges at Festivals to be wise in choosing the “best” films, for their decisions, now, more than ever, impact our culture and our entertainment choices. For a list of some of the major secular film festivals, click HERE.
• Ari Emanuel, Co-CEO at William Morris Endeavor, recently posted 6 tips that he considers crucial to being successful in any business. Though not a Christian, his list contains some biblical principals that are true in any setting. Let's pray for Ari, that he realizes his understanding comes from his Creator, God! Click HERE

HPN MEMBER REQUESTS:
• Celine, who is from Europe, says, "I hope it would not be too much to ask if HPN could pray for my family. I am the only saved person and they do not understand why I would want to go to Hollywood. It is difficult to tell them I would like to witness to people in Hollywood so the people out there can hear the message of the Gospel." Please pray for Celine's family, who need to know Jesus, and also for Celine, both for her testimony and witness to her family and also as she attempts to ascertain God's direction for moving forward! Also, please pray for the other Christians who have a passion to pursue a career in entertainment and their families, who may not understand. May the Lord give them wisdom in making a decision that is His best plan for their lives.
• Thanks to all of you who have signed up to donate a portion of your Ralphs shopping bills to HPN. Every time you shop at Ralphs or Krogers, 4% of your bill will be donated directly to HPN!!! SEPTEMBER PRAYER POINTS It’s September – that’s a big month for television in Hollywood. It launches the new TV Fall Season, the Emmys, and the realization that if you haven’t landed a job on a series by now, it could be many more months of unemployment. So, let’s pray for the people in television! SUMMARY: • Thanks for praying for "The Great American Bible Challenge"• Praise God for HPN's new Administrative Assistant, Lisa Petersenhttp://www.hollywoodprayernetwork.org/files/user27/Aster_MonteCasino.jpg• We thank God for those of you who joined our giving team last month• Sept. 23rd is the TV event of the year, the 64th annual Emmy Awards• In prep for the Emmys, pray for the 23 new shows on the air• Pray for people watching the new shows this season•  Pray for network executives to get hungry for the Lord• Pray for actors on television to make wise moral choices• Pray for Robin Roberts, the news anchor on Good Morning America• Pray for the majority of industry professionals who can't find work•  HPN wants to help the PGA as they help Make-A-Wish Foundation• Film Producer/Director Tony Scott committed suicide• Pray for Nini, who boldly appeared on the new “Ricki Lake Show”• Pray for Nuri, Alice and Ana, all industry pros going through it• Pray for Terri and Barry, HPN’s Local Chapter Directors in San Jose• Pray for Megan Giambroni, HPN’s Local Chapter Director in Ohio
• HPN member David asked for prayer as his feature documentary• Pray for David Hurtado, HPN’s Local Chapter Director in Virginia• Don’t miss the upcoming events in Hollywood ANSWERED PRAYERS: •  Thanks for praying for the nation to embrace "The Great American Bible Challenge" now on the GSN (The Game Show Network). We praise God that it’s quickly become the highest rated show on that network.  What an answer to prayer!! Keep praying for the show’s creators, the contestants and it's host, Jeff Foxworthy.  Read about Jeff Foxworthy and how, as a Christian, he approaches this show. •  Praise God for HPN's new Administrative Assistant, Lisa Petersen. She is an answer to our prayers for our ministry. Keep praying for her transition and for her to catch the full vision for what she's doing and the eternal difference it's making in our industry and our world.  We’re so excited to have her. If you want to say hi, just email her at lisa@hpnemail.org. •  We thank God for those of you who joined our giving team last month. Thank you so much. You are an answer to our prayers! We couldn’t do anything without those of you who pray and those of you who give financially. Both are a perfect combination to be used by the Lord - we are so grateful! For more info on joining our team, click HERE. REQUESTS: • Sept. 23rd is the TV event of the year – the 64th annual Emmy Awards on ABC. This year it’s hosted by Jimmy Kimmel. Let’s pray for Jimmy to encounter God and for the nominees and the winners, to find their identity in Jesus, not in whether or not they take home an Emmy, for that will only disappoint them. For more info. and a list of all the nominees, click HERE. • In preparation for the Emmys let’s pray for the 23 new shows on the air and ask God to do a new thing in television.  He can make streams in the wasteland! For a full list of the shows, click HERE. •  Pray for people watching the new shows this season, that they will be discerning as they support the positive shows, by watching them and talking about them, and choose not to watch the compromising shows. • Pray for the network executives to get hungry for the Lord so that they will understand what shows are uplifting and what shows are morally destructive. Pray also that God will help them to make wise choices about which ones will stay on and which ones will get cancelled. • Pray for the actors on television to make wise moral choices and to stand firm in their convictions if asked to do something that they are uncomfortable doing.    • Please pray for Robin Roberts, the news anchor on Good Morning America. On August 31, her mother passed away just hours before she announced that she was taking a leave of absence to deal with M.D.S., a rare and serious blood disorder that affects the body's bone marrow. Robin loves God, so let’s pray for her as she draws closer to Him during this time and that He will heal her body. Her life can be such a witness to her friends, family and her fans. For more info on Robin, click HERE.
 •  Pray for the majority of industry professionals who can't find work, can't make their rent and feel overwhelmed with life.  It's more difficult to live and try to work in Hollywood than anyone imagines.  It's a spiritual battleground and just surviving takes so much of people's energy and focus.  Would you pray for the Lord to fill people up with a renewed hope, a sense of purpose and with His peace and joy.  We need to be refreshed to face the struggles of each day. • HPN wants to help the Producers Guild of America as they help Make-A-Wish Foundation. The PGA is working with the organizers of Make-A-Wish to help fulfill the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. If you are able to help make any of these wishes come true below, contact Karen@hpnemail.org. Otherwise, please pray for these children, that the Lord will give them the desires of their hearts, that the PGA members will come closer to Him as they selflessly help thesechildren, and that we can make a difference in this endeavor as well.
Here are some of the wishes:
                                                            1. Jerome | Age 17 | Wishes to be on the TV series Community and meet series actor Ken Jeong.
                                                            2. Allison | Age 13 | Wishes to meet the cast of The Hunger Games.

                                                            9. Desiree | Age 18 | Wishes to act in a movie or TV show. •  Prolific Film Producer/Director, Tony Scott, unexpectedly committed suicide on Aug. 19th. It was a shock to our whole industry. Would you pray for Tony’s wife, Donna, their twin 12 year old sons, Frank and Max, Tony’s older brother, filmmaker Ridley Scott, and his other family and friends as they grieve the loss of Tony (age 68).  May the Lord bring them all closer to Him for comfort as they mourn their loved one. For more info click HERE.•  Pray for HPN member Nini, who boldly appeared on the new “Ricki Lake Show” yesterday (9/14) and talked about being a 40 year old virgin. Please pray that the audience who watched and continue to watch that episode will be inspired to stay virgins until they are married. HPN believes that Nini is leading the way for many Christians in this age to stand confidently and unbending in their faith and their principals and that others will find it appealing, empowering and want to follow. Check out the episode HERE. REQUESTS FROM HPN MEMBERS & LOCAL CHAPTER DIRECTORS: •   “Life is just not easy.  Please say a little prayer for me.  It’s one crisis after another. I have several friends in major crises too.  Alice just lost her job here after nine years, Nuri’s marriage is ending in divorce, and many people are in financialdisarray.  Life is so hard for so many I people I know.  Not to mention our country. Prayer is the answer.”  Ana •  Pray for Terri and Barry, HPN’s Local Chapter Directors in San Jose. They have both gone through difficult health issues this year and so we ask the Lord to heal them, encourage them, and make them strong again to keep doing His work, both in San Jose and in Hollywood. Terri creates HPN’s Kids and Teen Prayer Calendars every month and if you haven't seen this great way to pray with your kids for the media, click HERE.   • From Megan Giambroni, HPN’s Local Chapter Director in Ohio: “Light Up L.A., our Canfield, OH chapter has monthly meetings, mostly movie discussion nights the 1st Friday of each month.  Last month we watched 'Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close' and afterwards we had an awesome discussion and prayer time.  The vision for this chapter is to learn, pray, and analyze.  We learn more about popular media, analyze culture from a Christian perspective, and pray for the people who shape American culture.” Let's pray together for Megan, that God continues to give her wisdom in leading her chapter His wayas He draws people together in the Ohio Industry. If you’re close to Canfield and want to get involved click HERE. For more info. on local chapters close to you click HERE. •   HPN member David asked for prayer as his feature documentary,  "Hellbound?" is released in selected theatres this month. "Pray that  this film will provoke  informed discussion and break down barriers within the church that lead  to division. Ultimately pray that our response to the film leads us  closer to the heart of God. For more on the film click HERE.   David • From David Hurtado, HPN’s Local Chapter Director in Virginia:  “We’re getting ready to host an “Emmys Prayer Party” on Sept. 23rd. It’s the first of three such events as part of our Hampton Roads HPN chapter: Emmys Prayer Party on 9/23, An Oscar Prayer Party in Feb. and a Tonys Prayer Party next June. And now our HPN branch will meet every Thurs. at noon ET to pray!”  Pray for David and for his events that they may give the film/TV students at Regent University and the friends who participate a new passion to pray for the people, the shows and the issues inTV and film. Pray also that David can encourage them to keep their eyes on Jesus as they pursue their careers. And may these events build community in his area.  UPCOMING EVENTS: • Sept. 28, in honor of National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month (September) HPN member Hannah Pitts is producing an event with The Actors Fund, where people will gather to stuff goodie bags for kids with cancer and Hannah will be cutting 12" of her hair to donate to Children with Hairloss, helping kids with cancer. • Praise God for the joy of watching the Summer Olympics on TV. It is a gift to us to be able to share in the world’s most unifying sports event up close for 17 days. We must thank God for what is good on television and this is the perfect time to do that.

 • Thank the Lord for a great 2 hour prayer walk around Hollywood last month through the multi-church and ministry event called “Serve the City.” We had 5 teams of prayer walkers on the streets of Hollywood walking and praying for the people, the projects, the stores and the struggles of our famous city and it was miraculous. Thanks to all of you who participated and thanks to Dion at Ecclesia for inviting HPN to co-host the event.

UPDATE:

• Thank you so much for praying with us for the victims, their families and the professionals in Hollywood who were all personally impacted by the tragic shootings in Aurora, Colorado during the Batman screening. Please keep praying. We got an interesting response the day after the shooting from an HPN member who is currently working in Bollywood: “
I am in India at our overseas studio – the Colorado shooting is front page over here – very, very sad. Even with Bollywood (here in Hyderabad it’s “Tollywood” – different language). Just reminded of the effect around the world.” Rob

We wanted to point out one of the many miracles that did happen during the shooting, as a reminder that even though God must allow free will, He does show up and He does walk us through horrible times. An HPN member and industry professional Chloe, told us about her sister, Petra Anderson, who was one of victims in the theatre. As you read her story, will you pray for Petra and the Anderson family and praise God for His reminders that He is still in control of our broken world. Her prayer request is below. http://bstrait.wordpress.com/2012/07/22/a-miracle-inside-the-the-aurora-shooting-one-victims-story/

Here is Chloe’s prayer request for HPN: “We are so incredibly grateful about how much help and support has poured in to our family in the middle of all of this. As for our family, I would really actually appreciate prayers as I try to help my family navigate the media storm that has surrounded this story.  We are trying to learn how to SHOW, not tell how our faith has impacted this whole situation in a way that is winsome and not “holier-than-thou” or Bible thumping, and it’s a tight rope.   I so want to be able to use this opportunity that God has given us, and use it wisely.  Please pray for grace and wisdom as we navigate all this.”    Chloe
If you want more information about a Relief Fund helping the Aurora victims and their families, clickHERE.

REQUESTS:

• Let’s pray for the new TV season starting in September! We want shows that lift up the human spirit to do well, we want the people working on all the shows to find Jesus’s unconditional love in their lives, and we want to see God’s presence in the lives of the creators of today’s television. As you pray, check out the schedule of all the new and returning shows this season.

• Please pray for Sylvester Stalone and his family as they grieve the death of his teenage son, Sage. Stalone became a Christian a few years ago and so we ask the Lord to comfort him and give him supernatural strength as he goes through this devastating loss. For more information, click HERE.

• Comcast, the owner of Universal Studios, is looking into a change in the Universal regime and we ask that you pray for the decisions to be wise and positive for Universal. Corporate leaders of major media companies impact our entire nation, because it impacts the TV shows and films that are produced there. Please pray for the leadership of Comcast and of Universal and ask the Lord to fill them with His thoughts, desires, ideas and choices. For more info. click HERE.

•  We are seeing a surge of Bible stories becoming TV shows and films in Hollywood. As a Christian audience, we need to pray, and we also must support these films. Buying a ticket to a film is your vote, sending the message that you like these types of films. Below are seven studio films and network TV shows to pray for. Would you lift up all of the people behind these exciting biblical projects as they are produced in the secular media:

      1)    “God and Kings,” the Moses story directed by Steven Spielberg, to be released in 2013.
      2)     “Moses,” directed by Ridley Scott
      3)     “Goliath” is in Development and will be Directed by Scott Derrickson
      4)     “The Redemption of Cain,” in development with Will Smith, who would make his directorial debut, based on the biblical tale of brothers Cain and Abel.
      5)    “Noah,” starring Russell Crowe and directed by Darren Aronofsky, as they continue production. For more info. on how Aronofsky wants to “honor God” through the film, read:
      6)    “The American Bible Challenge” series that premieres August 23rd on The Game Show Network (GSNTV), hosted by Jeff Foxworthy.
      7)     “The Bible,” by known Reality TV Producer Mark Burnett. Pray for Mark, his wife, Roma Downey (from “Touched By An Angel), and the whole cast and crew of the upcoming 10 part TV series on The History Channel, as they complete production. This epic story has become the most important project Mark and Roma have ever done and we want to pray for them in the process. They need wisdom, strength, favor, focus, creativity, resources and support for this huge endeavor. We also need to watch it when it airs. For more info click HERE.

• Let’s pray for the non-believers who are working on these biblical stories.  May the truth penetrate into their hearts. Please pray for the Christians on these films and TV shows to be Christ-like in all they do and say.  They are being watched. Pray for the audience to support these Bible story films so that the studios and networks see that they are marketable topics and stories!

• Please pray for the Christians across America to join a growing understanding and movement of the need for us to take back the Arts.  God is doing a new thing in the hearts of Christians and we are beginning to realize that we need to not only engage in culture with a confident and creative world view, but we need to create and support great works of art. God speaks to us through the arts. We must support talented artists who are Christians. We can do this by encourage one another to work in the arts, support the arts and artists financially, and attend good movies, great art exhibits, fine television shows, beautiful dance and music concerts, opera, plays and museums. We need to become Patrons of the Arts once again. God is leading us back to impacting culture through being more engaged with the Arts.  HPN encourages you to join His movement through prayer and action. For more information on a great book to read, click HERE. For more information on how you can become more actively involved as a Patron of the Arts, to support and encourage quality programming, without being negative or judgmental, join HPN’s support of a new movement out of Hollywood called As1.

• Pray for comedian, John Fugelsang, who is ready to launch a new TV series that will focus on hypocrites in the “church.” Let’s pray that God will melt John’s heart, and heal the anger from this son of a Franciscan monk and an ex-nun. The show is set to debut in September in the 10 p.m. or 11 p.m. time slot. Fugelsang will mix comedy, politics and pop culture. However, his real focus is on religion and “the selective interpretation of the Bible” he feels conservatives have pushed on the American public. John quotes, “I want to do a show that takes on Chick-Fil-A and the Westboro Baptist Church using the Bible.”  As you pray, get insight into Fugelsang click HERE.

• Let’s pray for both believers and those with no faith in Hollywood, and pray for the personal character of the people here, so that they BECOME who God created them to BE, and not just DO what we think they should.  So, here are TEN QUALITIES that the Lord finds important in all of His creations.  Could you pray that the Lord instills these into the people creating culture across the globe!
1.  Purity
2.  Nobility
3.  Loveliness
4.  Righteousness
5.  Excellence
6.  Goodness
7.  Integrity
8.  Selflessness
9.  Self Control
10.  Truthfulness

• Please pray for HPN’s first donor and dear friend Ava, who is very sick and needs a miracle. She has been battling a very strange and serious health issue for several months.  It has taken its toll on her body – and her spirit.  She has been experiencing a slow deterioration of her body and is not making progress. Ava’s daughter Lisa asked that we all pray in hope and joy.  Ava, Ed and daughters Lisa, Jennifer and Karen know that prayer does matter!

REQUESTS FROM HPN MEMBERS:
•  Let’s pray for the people who are suffering from supporting Chic-Fil-A.  Three friends of HPN have asked for our prayers as they navigate their responses to nasty press about their stand on the issue.  Melissa Reeves (of 'Days of our Lives") and Scott Reeves (of "General Hospital") have recently been crucified in the press when Melissa posted on Twitter that she and her family stopped by Chic-fil-a and then she said "I thank God we live in a country where we have freedom of speech."  May the Lord give Melissa and Scott confidence and favor as they stand firm.  And may the Lord bring people to Him through this.

•  “Could you please pray for a longtime client of mine and friend of 17 years, she's a high profile actress and her husband owns a successful studio in town.  Her parents were burned to death in their home 3 weeks ago in LA. It was a horrific tragedy and the actress and her husband really need support in prayers. They are not believers but are begging for prayers. And I also want to say the right things to comfort them and show them God’s love.  Thanks.”  Howie

A PRAYER FOR HPN:

•  HPN is experiencing and exciting time of growth, opportunities, and open doors. It’s become very clear that Karen and Caren need to spend more time praying with people one–on-one and ministering more to Industry professionals.  The only way we can do this is to hire a part-time Administrative Asst. And we've found someone whom we believe is the perfect person. But we need additional funds to cover her salary.  Would you join with us in asking the Lord to bring us people who understand our need and want to donate funds to specifically help pay for our new Admin.?  We know that this step forward will make a big difference in our ministry and we also know that with God NOTHING is impossible.  Thanks for praying with us.  We can’t wait to see what He has in store!!!!

If you would like to donate to HPN, we would be so grateful to have you as a part of BOTH our praying team and/or giving team. Click HERE and it will lead you to our donation page. And remember that HPN is a non-profit, 501c3 corporation and all donations are tax-deductible.

QUOTE OF THE MONTH:
The value of consistent prayer is not that He will hear us, but that we will hear Him.” -- William McGill

VERSE OF THE MONTH: (This is why we’re excited to see so many films and TV shows coming out, based on the Word of God:) "For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart."  Hebrews 4:12 (NIV)

July 2012 Newsletter

HAPPY JULY.  We have a lot to pray  for, even though it’s the middle of summer and our industry is supposed  to be very quiet.  So, as you’re enjoying the summer weather, or even  driving in your car on vacation, would you keep praying for the people,  the projects and the issues in Hollywood that impact your world?

SUMMARY:

•  Keep praying for Alan Horn at Disney and HPN’s friend who is working with him

•  Pray for FATHERS in our industry
•  Pray for Tom Cruise (50), Katie Holmes (33) and their daughter Suri (6)
•  Pray for Johnny Depp and his girlfriend, Vanessa Paradis, as they split up
•  Pray for Jay Leno who was influenced by Louis Zamperini's conversion story

•  Pray for Kristin Chenoweth who was hospitalized Wednesday

UPDATES:

•  Last month we prayed for Alan Horn, the new head of Disney Production.   AN HPN member emailed us:  “Keep praying for Alan Horn, our new studio  head. I am decorating his office with art & am praying for him!!”   Let’s keep praying for Alan!

•   Last month we prayed for the TV series, “The American Bible  Challenge.”  We have discovered that one of our members works with the  show and praised God for our prayers!  Rachel said, “Thank you for  praying for the American Bible Challenge...I work for GSN in sales and  it has been interesting to go out an "sell' this show to the secular  world.  Interesting conversations and feedback...appreciate the  prayers.” Let’s keep praying for that show, for Rachel, the other people  involved and the impact it will continue to have.

PRAISE:

•   We praise God for His hand on Broadway and in LA Theater as musicals  and shows are addressing the godly messages of love and forgiveness in  recent productions such as,  'Leap of Faith' and Tony award winning  'Memphis'.  We praise
Him also for the joyful and creative  messages in ‘Mary Poppins’ and ‘Peter, the Starcatcher.’ Let’s pray for  the creative artists in Theatre as well.

REQUESTS:

•   Pray for FATHERS in our industry.  On Fathers Day I was moved to pray  for the fathers in our industry, who are so often not in town, too busy,  or just plain absent.  Let’s pray for the fathers who are so needed in  the lives of their children, for security, emotional stability and to  role model what marriage is supposed to be.

•  Pray for  Tom Cruise (50), Katie Holmes (33) and their daughter Suri (6), as Tom  and Katie get divorced after 6 years of marriage. They were labeled one  of the most high-profile celebrity couples ever. We must pray for the  Lord to reveal the truth of Scientology to Tom, for that was a  contributing factor in the divorce.  May all three of them seek Jesus  during this time for He is their only Rock.  For more details click HERE.

•  Let’s pray for Johnny Depp and his girlfriend,  Vanessa Paradis, as they split up after being together 14 years. Vanessa  is the mother of his two children, Lily Rose, 12 and Jack, 10. As you  pray, read this quote from Johnny about being a father:  "When I became a  dad for the first time, it was like a veil being lifted," said Pirates  of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp. "I was never horribly self-obsessed  or wrapped up in my own weirdness, but when my daughter was born,  suddenly there was clarity. I wasn't angry anymore. It was the first  purely selfless moment that I had ever experienced. And it was  liberating. In that moment, it's like youbecome something else. The  real you is revealed."  For more info click HERE.

•  Pray for Jay Leno as he was influenced by Louis  Zamperini's conversion story.   Louis’s conversion to Christianity  enabled him to forgive the Japanese military leaders who tortured him  during WWII.  Jay was truly moved last month by Louis, (who lives in  Hollywood) and asked him to tell his whole story on his show!  May the  Lord use Louis to bring Jay to know Him personally.  To hear the story click HERE.

•  Pray for Kristen Chenoweth who was hospitalized Wednesday after being hit by falling  lighting equipment on set, which knocked her out as she hit the  concrete. She was released after and overnight stay and is recovering at  home. As a Christian in the industry, pray also for God to protect her,  cover her, and give her strength to stay firm and grounded in Him. Ask  for favor and continued influence in her work.

•  We need prayer for the Christians in America to be  wise in how to respond to the Media.  A friend of HPN, Eric Metaxas,  wrote a disturbing yet poignant article on the problem with Christians’  lack of understanding about the Media and movies.  Could you pray for  the church to embrace the beauty in films? Read THIS article for more  insight.

•   The cancellation of the controversial TV series "GCB" happened  extremely quickly by ABC. And it reminds us that we don't need to  boycott, get angry or revved up about any programming that we  think is offensive, inappropriate or destructive.  We just have to pray.   We got some emails from our membership asking what to do about  "getting this show off the air" and our response was, "Just Pray!"  When  we've put the issue in God's hands, He'll do what's best.  Well, God  answered your prayers and decided that the show should be cancelled.   Let's spread the word that we can't make people behave in a certain way,  and we can't makepeople do certain types of programming, but we can  PRAY.  When we pray, God responds and then miracles happen! HERE'S the link to the  details on the show.

•  Pray for the people in Hollywood who are here  because they just want to be famous.  It's a terrible problem with both  Christians and non-believers and it's destructive. HERE is an article  from one of our Local Chapter Directors to remind us of this Idol:  The  human soul was not made for fame.

•   Well-known essayist and filmmaker, Nora Ephron, died of leukemia last  month.  Please pray for her family.  Nora wrote, produced and directed  many quality films telling stories of the human heart, such as “You’ve  Got Mail” and “Julie and Julia,” Let's pray for her husband,  screenwriter Nicholas Pileggi, her sons, Jacob and Maxher and her sister  Delia, whom Nora sometimes collaborated with. Pray that God will use  her death to draw those who knew and loved Nora to Jesus Christ!

•  Pray for all of the people behind some exciting  upcoming studio films of Bible Stories!  The film to pray for this month  is NOAH, which is in production at Paramount Pictures and will be  released in 2014. May it lead it's crew, cast and audience to read the  first hand story in the Bible!  Pray also for a pastor friend of HPN’s  that is consulting on NOAH.  May he have favor with the Director and get  a chance to maintain biblical truth and substance in the film. For more  info. click HERE.

REQUESTS FROM HPN MEMBERS:

•  “I have a prayer request for  grace in my trials. I would usually be more specific, but its just one  thing after another....if its not permanent housing, it's sleep....I  have not slept a solid night in almost a month and its hard enough to do  a job interview on one bad night, much less several weeks of ones in a  row. Thanks.”   -Rene

•  Cassandra Hollis, our HPN Atlanta Local  Chapter Director, represented HPN at the annual AMTC SHINE event last  week and it was a hit.  AMTC is a ministry for actors in Murietta, GA  and having them include HPN in the conference was so encouraging.  This  is an answer to our prayer for working with other ministries across the  country.  Cassandra said: “It was a great experience.  The presence of  the Lord just reigned throughout the conference.  The biggest blessing  of all was praying for the performers “on the spot” right there at our  HPN table!” HPN thanks Carey Lewis at AMTC for inviting us, and  Cassandra at HPN for making it happen. Atlanta is a growing media city  and we’re excited to be a part of it! For more info on AMTC click HERE.

•   Last week our Florida HPN chapter had a big Arts & Media Conference  and it was a hit.  They gathered hundreds of people in the media to  celebrate their work, network and pray for their industry. Thanks to  Gladys Colon for producing that
event.  The Florida ministry is HERE.

QUOTE OF THE MONTH:
"The  saint realizes that it is God who engineers circumstances, consequently  there is no whine, but a reckless abandon to Jesus.  Never make a  principle out of your experience; let God be as original with other  people as He is with you."  Oswald Chambers, My Utmost For His Highest

VERSE OF THE MONTH:
“But  blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him.  They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots  by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always  green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear  fruit.”  Jeremiah 17:7-8

We had the most attendees yet.  The prayer was powerful, some groups got to share their faith with a couple of the security guards, and it changed the perspective of some of the new pray-ers. Thanks to all who joined us, thanks to Christina, who organized it and thanks to you who prayed with us remotely!

UPDATE:
• Thanks for praying with us for the Academy Awards. Let’s now pray that the top 10 winners will embrace Jesus, that they will find complete fulfillment and their true identity in Him and that they will be transformed by His unconditional love, hope and salvation:

1.Michel Hazanavicious - Winner of BEST DIRECTOR for "The Artist"

9.  Robert Richardson - Winner of BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY for "Hugo"
10. Thomas Langmann - Producer of BEST PICTURE, "The Artist"

REQUESTS:
• Pray for "The Cry Hollywood" today, March 15th, when thousands will be converging on the Universal Studios Gibson Amphitheater for a "solemn assembly" of prayer. They describe it as not a conference, not a concert, but a cry from the hearts of men and women who know that God wants to move in the Arts and Entertainment industry.

• Please choose one person in a film you love and pray for God to reveal His unconditional love to him/her this month!

• Pray for Rainn Wilson, the actor most known as Dwight in TV’s “The Office,” who is a member of the Baha'i faith. Rainn says his faith “is very important to me. It's very personal." For more info on Rainn as you pray for him, click HERE.

• Pray for the Lord’s presence to be at WonderCom 2012 on March 16-18 at the Anaheim Convention Center. It’s a branch of Comic-Con and thousands of people attend to celebrate the world of comics, graphic novels and those in that world.

•  Pray for the Christian entertainment audience to grow in wisdom as they learn how to watch, process and respond to films, TV shows, and music.  We have to understand both what our entertainment is saying and how to talk about it with others in culturally relevant terms.  Pray for wisdom and discernment in how we discuss today’s entertainment with others.

• Please pray for 'Seinfeld' Actor, Daniel Von Bargen, who was hospitalized after shooting himself in the head in a suicide attempt. When we see actors on television or in films, we fail to realize that they are human beings with hurts, wounds and even demons that they’re struggling with. Daniel did recover and we pray that he’ll find hope in Jesus.

• May we pray that all people, both outside and inside Hollywood, can understand God’s view of beauty, versus the media’s view of beauty. We are so superficial in what we value.  God looks on the inside of us, not the outside. HPN member Brian S. Chan, author of The Purple Curtain, wrote a challengingarticle on beauty. As you pray, click HERE to read.

REQUESTS FROM HPN MEMBERS:
•  Karen is speaking to a group of Christians in Seattle on Saturday, March 24th and HPN member Marylou asked that we pray for the one-day seminar on “How To Talk About Jesus Without Freaking Out.”  Her heart is to bring in a committed group of people who want to reach out to their city and communities. She wants us to pray for the Lord to do miracles in Seattle.
• Please pray for LAFSC alum, Katie, who after working a few years in L.A. for casting directors, went on a missions trip to Africa ..... and found her calling.  She now teaches at Film School Africa, a fairly new venture, to help young people with media interests, out of poverty, by preparing them for eligibility to a university level directing program.  ~ Fran, Twin Cities

• Would HPN please pray for celebrities?  With the deaths of Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston - there's something to be said about mankind worshipping idols.   Man was not created to be praised or worshipped - as humans we cannot handle it. As humans we put a lot of pressure on celebs to be "godlike" and there is so much pressure on them.   They have so much to live up to, especially if their 'light as a star" has faded....I really believe that is what they go through. That's why I would never ever wish to have any kind of fame, it's a curse and most people do not know how to handle it.    Howie

UPCOMING EVENTS:
• K.E.Y.S. Hollywood on March 21st - 25th. This is a cutting edge gathering of business leaders to discuss spiritual, vocational and networking growth as Christians in our various marketplaces. Over 100 speakers will talk about their expertise as Christians in business. For more info. click HERE.

•  The World Prayer Assembly is gathering in Jakarta, Indonesia this May 13 - 19th and HPN will be there.  Please pray for Karen and Caren as we prepare to speak on and pray for the global entertainment industry, the impact that media has on the world and for God to do miracles in the creative community across the globe.  We appreciate your prayers for us as we represent our community to 35,000 praying people.
